Sweet Autumn Fair (Fira Tardor Dolça) – Horta Sant Joan

October 3, 2026 October 4, 2026

The historic mountain village of Horta de Sant Joan celebrates autumn’s harvest with its annual Sweet Autumn Fair, showcasing traditional artisan sweets and local products from the Terra Alta region.

Taking place in the atmospheric Old Town around the church square and neighboring streets, this festival puts the spotlight on traditional autumn delicacies made the same way for generations. The star attraction is “mostillo,” a sweet treat made from grape must, flour, and nuts that’s typical of vineyard regions throughout Spain.

The Bàrbara Women’s Collective prepares mostillo fresh throughout the day using traditional methods. According to organizers, tasting it “takes you back to childhood, remembering typical snacks during harvest season.” It’s the kind of authentic, homemade flavor you won’t find in any store.

Local businesses showcase their zero-kilometer products alongside artisans from the surrounding area—traditional sweets, autumn produce, and handcrafted goods that reflect the character of this agricultural region. The fair celebrates everything autumn brings: grapes fresh from nearby vineyards, nuts from local trees, and seasonal produce transformed into traditional desserts and preserves.

Horta de Sant Joan is worth visiting even beyond festival days. This historic hilltop village is famous for its connection to Pablo Picasso, who spent time here and credited the landscape with influencing his development as an artist. The Old Town’s narrow streets and stone architecture provide a glimpse into traditional Catalan village life. The 35-minute drive from our finca takes you through scenic Terra Alta countryside, making it an easy half-day or full-day trip.
