Pinell de Brai Fiesta Major (Sant Llorenç)

August 8, 2026 August 14, 2026

Distance: 8 minutes by car

El Pinell de Brai celebrates its annual Fiesta Major in honor of Sant Llorenç (Saint Lawrence), with a week-long August festival bringing the Terra Alta wine region’s communities together for vibrant celebrations.

El Pinell de Brai is best known for its stunning modernist cooperative winery (a César Martinell design, like Gandesa’s famous cooperative) and its position in the heart of Terra Alta wine country. The Fiesta Major reflects this agricultural heritage whilst celebrating community bonds characteristic of these small Catalan villages.

The festival coincides with the feast day of Sant Llorenç on August 10th—a martyr saint who is the patron of cooks, butchers, and the poor, fitting for a village community built around agriculture and communal support.

Festival highlights include traditional float parades through village streets, correfocs (fire runs) with devils and fireworks, concerts featuring local and regional musicians, popular dinners where the community gathers to eat together, various sports competitions and tournaments, and activities for children and families.

Early-to-mid August is prime summer in the Terra Alta. Expect warm to hot weather (30°C+/86°F+)—perfect for evening celebrations under the stars but requiring sun protection during afternoon activities. If visiting El Pinell de Brai during the Fiesta Major, consider arriving earlier in the day to explore the modernist cooperative winery architecture, “Les Cases Caigudes” (The Fallen Houses)—Civil War ruins preserved as a memorial, and Hill 705 monument on Serra de Pàndols, commemorating Battle of the Ebro casualties.
