New Year’s Eve Popular Dinner – Benifallet

31 December @ 00:00 23:59

The dinner typically begins in the evening (around 9-10pm), building towards the midnight countdown. This communal celebration offers a warm, welcoming alternative to typical New Year’s Eve parties – celebrating with your neighbours in authentic village style.

The Twelve Grapes Tradition:

At midnight, everyone participates in Spain’s most famous New Year tradition: eating twelve grapes (one for each chime of the clock) as the year turns. Each grape eaten successfully brings good luck for one month of the coming year.

It sounds easy but requires surprising coordination – twelve grapes in twelve seconds while the clock chimes! The scramble to finish creates laughter and bonding as everyone struggles together.

Additional Traditions:

  • Wearing red underwear for good luck in love during the coming year
  • Toasting with cava (Catalan sparkling wine) after the grapes
  • Embracing and wishing everyone “Feliç Any Nou!” (Happy New Year in Catalan)

After midnight, celebrations continue with music, dancing, and socialising. Younger people often head out to continue celebrations elsewhere, while others enjoy the community atmosphere into the early hours.

Why Celebrate in the Village

Benifallet’s New Year’s Eve dinner offers genuine community celebration far from impersonal city crowds or expensive tourist events. You’ll experience authentic Catalan New Year traditions alongside neighbours in a welcoming, festive atmosphere.

The village setting means you can walk back to the finca after celebrating – no worrying about transportation or crowds. Start the New Year with new friends in your adopted village community.
